How it works
Check the venue and artist policy before deciding what gear to bring.
Dial exposure and audio for dark stages and loud PA systems before the first song.
Get the clips that matter, put the camera down, and label footage the same night.
Questions people ask
Is it legal to film at concerts?
It depends on the venue and the artist: many allow phone clips and prohibit dedicated rigs, and tickets often state the policy. Check before you bring anything beyond a phone.
Why does my concert footage sound terrible?
Phone mics compress loud, bass-heavy sound into distortion. Lowering input gain, using an external mic, or standing off the speaker axis each helps dramatically.
How do photographers get into the pit?
Through credentials — usually arranged via the artist's or venue's press contact — and pit access almost always comes with the first-three-songs, no-flash convention.
